No dissidence in Meghalaya Congress: Chief minister, Mukul Sangma

Mukul Sangma had written to Congress High command describing the current activity in the state. Meghalaya is going to polls in 2018.

GUWAHATI: With dissenting activity brewing in the ruling Congress party in Meghalaya, chief minister, Mukul Sangma said that there is no dissidence in the party and few BJP leaders are trying to find out what is happening in the State.

There is speculation that some Congress leaders are in touch with BJP leaders.

Mukul said that there is no demand to change the CLP leader.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang had said on Wednesday that the demand for change of leadership is still an issue and that it was up to the high command to take a final call on the matter.

After defeat in Tura Lok Sabha seat in Meghalaya dissent activity has gained momentum. This defeat has caused discomfort in ruling Congress in state for 22 of the 24 MLAs in the Garo Hills are from Congress. Garo hills are Mukul’s stronghold.
